I really enjoyed Robert Mason's Book Chickenhawk, and I wondered what life for him would be on returning home from the dangerous twelve months in Vietnam, facing death daily, then returning to a "Normal Life" home in the USA. I was amazed at all the different undertakings he tried, with some success and much failure, I marvelled at the way his good wife Patience, went through all the ups and downs and stood by him. That lady really had patience. She put up with his insecurities, his PTSD, alcoholism and then a jail sentence. But she could still see the good Bob Mason in this man all messed up. I was surprised to find he wrote Chickenhawk some time after his return from Vietnam and fighting his demons, and finishing this book after being sentence to prison. It was a great book, easy to read and involved the reader. This led me to follow along and read Patience Mason's book "Recovering from War: A woman's guide to helping your Vietnam Veteran, your family and your self"Product details

Excellent read.
Another deeply personal and unabashedly honest story. Not comfortable to read but impossible to turn away from, Mason describes a the flawed man that we all can recognize in ourselves.
I liked the way the story was told. Real life, unpolished, true narrative . I was cheering for his success as a writer.
This like Chickenhawk before it is very well written, brutally honest and ultimately a great read. Possibly one of the best books, again along with Chickenhawk, about Vietnam and its aftermath. Highly recommended
Mr Mason is an excellent writer. his style and his personal story kept me totally involved, especially so since i had read Chickenhawk some years ago and had since wondered what had happened to Mr Mason. I was gratified to find that Chickenhawk had been successful financially and that life had turned out well for Mr. Mason and his family.
Read Chickenhawk about twenty-five years ago, and to date it is my favorite Vietnam helicopter story. This followup is fantastic and well worth your time and money if you've read Chickenhawk first.
This is a worthy biography for readers of "Chickenhawk" also by this author. A fascinating account of one man's life after Vietnam, all the troubles and the triumphs. And the shocking middle part of the book is far too good to give away. You feel many of the emotions as experienced by the author. I have re-read it several times since I like the author's style, for the insights and the often quite clever writing. I highly recommend this book.
